Strategy & approach
The project was broken down into 8 areas. XDoc warehouse, main warehouse, staff facilities, perimeter security, main office, main gate, wash bay, and the fibre back bone. Each of these areas had multiple phases within the project.
The phases consisted of First fix (Installation of Cat 6A and fibre optic cable) Second fix (Installation of data cabinets, termination, label, and testing data optic fibre) Third fix (Installation UPS, data switch, and patching of services).
Due to the nature of the project, a number of teams were deployed on-site to cover various buildings simultaneously. The project kicked off with XDOC and staff facilities, we then expanded our teams to include the main warehouse. A month later we began with the main office and main gate. While this was all in full swing which included the perimeter security network, we were also in the process of installing the main fibre optic backbone between the buildings.Â
The installation consisted of 4400 Cat 6A network points, 4, 8, 12, 24, and 48 core single mode Fibre optic cable connections, a total of 27 42u, 18 21u indoor cabinets, and 9 IP65 outdoor cabinets throughout the warehousing facility. 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6KVA UPS’s were installed to keep the data network up and running through any power outages.
In this time, we subsequently received three additional orders in which two video walls were supplied and installed, and a data and fibre network for the parcel sorter was installed. A second sorter was procured by DSV which was installed in the main warehouse and needed to be cabled and networked with the current infrastructure
The structured cabling installed throughout the offices and warehouse covered the services for access control, CCTV, Wi-Fi, AV, and data for staff, together with various data cabinets for the perimeter CCTV service.
The project spanned for the duration of 8 months, in which time three teams of 18 staff members worked nonstop to ensure we reached our deadlines set out by WHBO.
A great project to work on.
